Multi-week Lesson Programs

 

6 week programs start between January 4th to 10th depending on which day of the week you chose.  

Arctic Circle - Ski

Availability: Saturday or Sunday 9:30, 11:30 or 1:30

Length: 1 hour 30 minutes each week for 6 weeks

What is my ability level?

The Arctic Circle program is for children ages 4-6 who have never been on skis before and any 4 and 5 year olds.  These classes have a smaller student to instructor ratio to give children the extra attention they need.  There is a 8:2 Student to Instructor Ratio.   An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid from 30 minutes prior to the start of your lesson for a period of 4 hours.  This allows students to warm up before their lesson and then practice new skills after their lesson.  

Mountain Side - Ski

Availability: Saturday or Sunday 9:30, 11:30 or 1:30

Length: 1 hour 30 minutes each week for 6 weeks

What is my ability level?

The Mountain Side program is for ages 7 & up with or without experience or 6 year olds with prior skiing experience.  Mountain Side programs are split up into different groups based on age and prior skiing ability.  This program is great for those who are looking to learn how to ski or to master new skills.  There is a 8:1 Student to Instructor Ratio.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid from 30 minutes prior to the start of your lesson for a period of 4 hours.  This allows students to warm up before their lesson and then practice new skills after their lesson.  

Rad Riders - Snowboard

Availability: Saturday or Sunday 9:30, 11:30 or 1:30

Length: 1 hour 30 minutes each week for 6 weeks

The Rad Riders program is our learn to snowboard program for children ages 5 - 7.  Maple Ski Ridge is a Burton Learn to Ride learning center.  These classes have a smaller student to instructor ratio to give children the extra attention they need.  There is a 8:2 Student to Instructor Ratio.  This program is great for those who are looking to learn how to snowboard.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid from 30 minutes prior to the start of your lesson for a period of 4 hours.  This allows students to warm up before their lesson and then practice new skills after their lesson.

After-School Programs - Ski or Snowboard

Availability: Wed, Thur or Fri 4:30 or 5:30

Length: 1 hour each week for 6 weeks

What is my ability level?

Our after-school programs are available for skiing and snowboarding lessons at a variety of levels.  This program is for 2nd grade and up with or without experience.  There is a 10:1 Student to Instructor Ratio.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid until closing, allowing students to practice the skills taught in their lessons before or after their lesson each week.  

Adult Lesson Program - Ski or Snowboard

Availability: Wednesday 6:30 PM or Friday 1:30 PM (Ski only)

Length: 1 hour each week for 6 weeks

What is my ability level?

Our adult lesson program is designed around teaching methods that are best for adults.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid until closing, allowing those adults to practice the skills taught in their lessons before or after their lesson each week.  Must have at least 6 students per level for the program to run.  

 

 

Ladies Only Program - Ski

Availability: Thursday 6:30 PM

Length: 1 hour each week for 6 weeks

What is my ability level?

Our ladies only program is designed for adult women and is taught by our Snowsports director, Dana Walton.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid until closing, allowing ladies to practice the skills taught in their lessons before or after their lesson each week.  Must have at least 6 students per level for the program to run.  

Home School Lessons - Ski

Availability: Friday

Level 1 2:30 PM

Level 2/3 3:30 PM

Length: 1 hour each week for 6 weeks Starting 1/8/20

Our home school lessons program is designed for home schooled children, ages 6 and up.  An area use pass is included for the days of your lessons and is valid until closing, allowing students to practice the skills taught in their lessons before or after their lesson each week.  Must have at least 6 students per level for the program to run.  

Home School Lessons - Snowboard

Availability: Friday 3:30 PM

Level 1 Only

Length: 1 hour each week for 6 weeks Starting 1/10/20

A parent pass allows you to ski or snowboard during the same times that your child's lesson pass is valid.  This gives you the chance to ski or snowboard with your child before or after their lesson and save money!  Rentals are not included and pass is not transferable.

Skier Ability Levels



Level 1
Never-ever (No Prior skiing experience)

Level 2
Can put on and take off their equipment and move around the flats (able to duck walk). They are comfortable gliding and stopping on the Bunny Hill (Half way up+). Can sometimes make simple direction changes (step turns) when sliding. Confidently able to ride the handle tow.

Level 3
Comfortable gliding and making turns from top of the Bunny Hill. Occasionally able to make parallel turns on bunny or cross over. Comfortable with crossover.

Level 4
Must be able to comfortably ski groomed blue squares. Comfortably able to ride the chairlift . Can confidently link wedge turns on all blue squares.

Level 5
Able to comfortably link mostly wedge christie turns of varying sizes, controlling their speed in most situations (Blue squares). When faced with difficult terrain may resorts back to wedge turns. Able to use parallel turns on the flats.

Level 6
Comfortable ably to use mostly parallel turns on all blue squares confidently controlling their speed  and stopping without wedge. Able to ski the chute but may resorts back to wedge christies. Beginning to use poles.

Level 7
Comfortably and confidently able to ski all black diamonds with only parallel turns, using poles properly. 

Snowboarder Ability Levels

Level 1

You have never tried skiing or snowboarding before.

 

What to expect:

  • Learn about equipment and the mountain environment.

  • Discover the joy and excitement of sliding on snow!

  • Learn to stop.

  • Learn to get up from a fall.

  • Learn to make first turns.

  • Make it fun.

 

Level 2

You have spent a few hours on the slopes—probably a day or two. You can put on and take off your equipment and move around on the flats. You are comfortable gliding and stopping on the easiest learning terrain (Bunny Hill), and you can sometimes make simple direction changes while sliding.

 

What to expect:

  • Improve your turns

  • Gain confidence & control

 

Level 3

You are very comfortable gliding and making turns on beginner terrain. You feel almost ready for easy green runs on the mountain.  Can nearly link turns heel to toe.

 

What to expect:

  • When you’re ready, ride a chairlift and ski or ride on the mountain!

  • Develop confidence with different sizes and types of turns, with rhythm and consistent speed.

Level 4

You ride comfortably and confidently on Maple’s “green circle” mountain terrain. You can ride chairlifts and link smooth, gliding turns on all but the steepest green sections. You can link heel & toe turns.

 

What to expect:

  • Refine your fundamentals

  • Explore all “green circle” runs and “blue square” runs.

Level 5

You ride comfortably and confidently on all “green circle” and most groomed “blue square” terrain at Maple Ski Ridge. You can link turns of varying sizes and you can control your speed in most situations by adjusting your line, with little need for braking.

 

What to expect:

  • Explore higher speeds and more vigorous movements for shorter, complete turns.

  • Develop higher edge angles and discover the control and sensations of carved turns.

  • Gain confidence on steeper, more challenging groomed blue terrain.

  • Venture into easiest ungroomed terrain

Level 6 

You are comfortable and confident on any groomed “blue square” terrain, and capable of riding easiest and blue terrain at Maple Ski Ridge. You can link turns of varying size at moderate speed. Snowboarders are beginning to skid less, with the tail of the board following the tip, for more control of their line.

 

Level 7

You are comfortable and confident on all blue square and easier black diamond terrain, including moderate moguls and ungroomed snow. You can modify your technique and tactics from a growing quiver of options, linking dynamic carved turns with consistent rhythm on blue groomed terrain. Snowboarders can mix carved and skidded turns.
