(More Than You Think)
Hello friends, it’s Auntie Maple!
If you’ve spent any time around Maple Ski Ridge, you already know how much I love seeing people learn to ski and snowboard. There’s just something about watching that first wobbly turn turn into a confident smile—it never gets old.

But every winter, I meet folks who tell me they’re “just going to figure it out on their own.” Maybe they’ve watched a few YouTube videos or have a friend who’s promised to teach them. I get it—lessons can feel like one more thing to add to the budget or schedule. Here’s the thing though: taking a lesson is worth it!
1. You’ll Learn Faster (and Smarter)
A professional instructor doesn’t just show you what to do—they know how to teach it. They spot things you’d never notice on your own and give you tips that actually click. That means you spend less time falling and more time skiing.
2. You’ll Stay Safer
Snow can be soft, but the hill still deserves respect. Lessons teach you not only how to turn and stop, but how to move around safely, ride the lift correctly, and share the hill with others. Safety isn’t about being cautious—it’s what gives you the confidence to enjoy every run.
3. Kids Learn Better from Instructors (Not Parents!)
I say this with love, parents: sometimes your kids just listen better to someone else. Our instructors are trained to make learning fun, to keep kids engaged, and to help them build independence on the snow. When they succeed, you get to just watch and cheer.
4. It Builds Confidence, Not Just Skills
A good lesson isn’t only about technique—it’s about believing you can do it. That first time you glide down without falling, or nail a smooth turn, you can almost feel your confidence click into place. And that feeling sticks.
5. It Makes Skiing and Riding a Lifelong Joy
When you start with the right foundation, skiing and snowboarding become something you’ll love for years—not just survive for a day. Lessons open the door to a lifetime of fun on snow, for you and your family.
Aunt Maple’s Take
I still remember my first time teaching someone to ski—the look on their face when it finally clicked was pure magic. Lessons do that. They turn frustration into joy, nerves into excitement, and beginners into lifelong snow lovers.
If you or your kids are thinking about hitting the slopes this season, do yourselves a favor: start with a lesson. They are worth it!
See you on the snow,
Auntie Maple
